Rachel’s Reads – Summer Reads
Summer reading is right around the corner! I always look forward to the plethora of books that arrive during the course of the summer (and to hopefully having some extra time to read them). Here are just a few of the books that I am eagerly waiting to get my hands on.
The Margot Affair by Sanaë Lemoine, debuts June 16th
The secret daughter of a French politician and famous actress decides to expose her family’s truth to a journalist and sets into motion a chain of events she couldn’t have imagined.
The Lightness: A Novel by Emily Temple * June 16th
A year after her father disappeared after leaving home for a meditation retreat, Olivia runs away to find him and finds a group of girls learning to levitate. This promises to be a charged portrait of a girl growing up.
Death in Her Hands by Ottessa Moshfegh * June 23rd
In this highly anticipated new novel, a woman becomes obsessed with solving a murder that may have never happened.
Sensation Machines by Adam Wilson * July 7th
The failing marriage of a Brooklyn based couple sets the stance for what is said to be a brilliantly observed human frame that grapples with greed, automation, and many other issues.
Becoming Duchess Goldblatt: A Memoir by Duchess Goldblatt * July 7th
From the anonymous author of the Twitter account @DuchessGoldblatt, this new part memoir, part imaginative tale, promises to be incredibly original.
Natural History by Carlos Fonseca Suárez, translated by Megan McDowell * July 14th
A collaboration between a curator at a museum of natural history and a fashion designer ends abruptly. Seven years later, a package arrives at the curator’s door and contains the designer’s obituary, among other things, and the relationship begins again.
Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell * July 14th
Set in the 1960’s London rock scene, this story tells the tale of the meteoric rise and then disappearance of a band. It looks to be a musical escape.
The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones * July 14th
Blending classic horror and a dramatic narrative, this novel follows four American Indian men after a disturbing event from their youth returns to cause problems for them now.
A Star Is Bored: A Novel by Byron Lane * July 28th
This juicy tale about a struggling journalist who becomes the assistant to a washed-up actress is made all the more interesting as it is written by Carrie Fisher’s former assistant. It makes you wonder how much is “based on a true story?”
Migrations: A Novel by Charlotte McConaghy * August 4th
This story follows a haunted young woman who is on a journey to track the migration of the last flock of Arctic terns from Greenland to Antarctica. It has been described as devastatingly beautiful.
Happy Reading!
