Helping Hands at Children’s Mercy

Each April, Children’s Mercy celebrates its incredible volunteers, who serve important roles in a myriad of functions and brighten days for patients and their families. These are just a few of the hundreds of volunteers who allow Children’s Mercy to fulfill its mission of pediatric health care.

Stephanie Simpson
“Going to the doctor can be scary and stressful for both the child and their parents. I’m usually the first person to greet our families as they enter the building, and volunteering for Children’s Mercy allows me the opportunity to make a positive difference in our guests’ days.”

George Morris
“I began my interest in and involvement with Children’s Mercy through the CMH/Children’s TLC relationship, and then as a member of the Central Governing Board. A long time ago, Children’s Mercy was a good regional children’s hospital; now it is a great, world-class children’s hospital.”

Joe Whalen
“When I retired, my goal was to find a volunteer opportunity with an organization where I could support a caring and quality culture, so my choice to volunteer at Children’s Mercy was an easy one! As part of the CM family for years, I have maintained a nursing scholarship program that has awarded scholarships to deserving nursing candidates, most of whom were already part of the CM family, or joined after graduation.”

Judy Steadman
“The highlight of my week is rocking babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Mercy! … Four years ago I started this dream volunteer opportunity. My heart is filled to the brim each week as I love those precious babies.”
